Hello! I was pleased with the amount of engagement my last post on defeating custody bills received. Several of you responded to say you would like to join the fight against unfair custody bills that HELP abusive parents and HARM protective parents and their children. But, many of youn have mentioned you don’t know how to start this fight.

Suggestions for Bonding Together to Fight Unfair Custody Laws

First, I suggest you create social media groups that others can find and join. You can message me on my Domestic Violence Awareness Facebook page once the groups are formed and I will share the pages with my followers there.

Secondly, I recommend you join with others that are already working to fight these unfair custody laws. Here are a few groups you can contact who might help.

National Network to End Domestic Violence

The National Network to End Domestic Violence (NNEDV) represents the 56 state and U.S. territorial coalitions against domestic violence. Domestic violence coalitions provide critical leadership in efforts to amplify survivors’ voices and end abuse. The coalitions support local domestic violence programs and provide valuable information about services, legislation, and policies that support victims and survivors.

Center for Judicial Excellence

The Center for Judicial Excellence is a nonprofit organization based in San Rafael, California. Their mission is to protect vulnerable children in the family court system and to create judicial accountability. Since May of 2006, they’ve worked to empower family court survivors and their children, exposing the systemic failures in our courts, and educating the media, state and federal lawmakers, and the public about the need for major reforms.

National Domestic Violence Hotline

The National Domestic Violence Hotline has been a resource for domestic violence survivors for years. The Hotline has a Take Action page that gives information how to advocate for law changes in federal and state courts.

Rising Beyond Power and Control

Sybil Cummin is a mental health therapist in Colorado who works with children and parents who have experienced abuse. Through her work, she saw the harm that unfair custody laws create for survivors of abuse. Because of this, she created a community called Rising Beyond Power and Control. If you join this community, you will receive her newsletters, and get information about her blog and podcasts where she talks about this topic often. I have highlighted Sybil’s podcasts in several of my blogs, including one she did with Lundy Bancroft about Kayden’s Law passed in Colorado.

I hope you find these resources helpful as you fight unfair custody laws in your state and country. Know that you are not alone as you work to bring justice to the justice system.

May God bless you as you begin this important work.
